West Virginia Telecommunications Association is a trade association representing telecommunications companies in West Virginia. It formalized as the West Virginia Telephone Association in 1952 and
was incorporated as a non-profit association in August 1989.
Membership is divided into four categories:
Category I Membership includes any company who owned and/or operated one or more local
telephone exchanges in West Virginia on or before January 1, 1994.
Category II Membership (Affiliate) is available to all firms operating as a telecommunications company,
Authorized to do business in West Virginia, and engaged in interexchange carrier services;
local exchange service as an adjunct to the principal business, but not eligible as a Category I member; cellular; radio common carrier; personal communications services; competitive access provider; radio paging; cable TV company; reseller of telecommunications services; enhanced telecommunications service provider, or any other telecommunications company as may be approved by the Board.
Category III Membership (Associate) is open to suppliers, manufacturers, service groups and industry support entities with interest in common with the organization and providing service to current Category I or Category II members.
Category IV Membership (Individual) is open to any person who is an employee or retiree of the telecommunications industry.
Our WVTA companies are continuing to invest in the future of West Virginia to satisfy customer needs with state-of-the-art telecommunications offerings which will support consumers and businesses…and contribute to the state's economy and infrastructure. Company members serving on WVTA Board of Directors are Armstrong Telephone Company, Frontier, Hardy Telecommunications, Spruce Knob Seneca Rocks Telephone Inc., Verizon, War Telecommunications, West Side Telecommunications, CityNet, FiberNet, Intelos, and StratusWave Communications.
The annual convention and trade show is held each May. This event offers opportunities for networking with skilled and dedicated people. In programs and informal business sessions, distinguished speakers provide expertise to assist members in facing a world of business and technology challenges.
Legislative activities are coordinated and monitored during legislative sessions, along with any other special projects, goals and specific priorities as determined by the WVTA Board of Directors. WVTA works with state legislators and other officials to promote the development of effective public policy in the fast-changing world of telecommunications, and any issues affecting the telecom industry.
